## Inequalities Problems For Bank

Dear Reader,

Below are three problems based on comparison of inequalities.

**Question 1**

A's weight is greater than B but less than C. B's weight is greater than E. D's weight is greater than A but less than G. Who among them has the less weight?

a) D b) G c) E d) C

**Answer :** c) E

Solution :

From "A's weight is greater than B but less than C"

i.e, C > A > B.......(1)

From "B's weight is greater than E"

i.e., B > E ......(2)

And from "D's weight is greater than A but less than G"

i.e.,G > D > A ....(3)

From (1), (2) and (3), we have,

C > A > B > E and G > D > A

Hence E has less weight than all.

**Question 2**

In an exam, P scores more marks than Q but less than R. T scores less than Q. S scores less than V but more than P and R scores less than V. Who among them has highest mark?

a) V b) R c) Q d) P

**Answer :** a)V

Solution :

From " P scores more marks than Q but less than R

we have Q < P < R ...(1)

From T scores less than Q

we have T < Q ...(2)

From S scores less than V but more than P

we have P < S < V ...(3)

and from R scores less than V

we have R < V ....(4)

From above 4 inequalities, we have

T < Q < P < R,S < V

Hence V scores highest marks.

**Question 3**

A is younger than E. D is elder than both C and B but younger than both E and A. Also B is younger than C but elder than F. Then who among them is the top most senior?

a) B b) C c) D d) E

**Answer:** d) E

Solution:

Given that A is younger than E i.e., A < E ...(1)

and D is elder than both C and B but younger than both E and A.

i.e, C < D < E and B < D < A ...(2)

And B is younger than C but elder than F.

i.e., F < B < C ...(3)

From above inequalities we have,

F < B < C < D < E and B < D < A < E

F < B < C < D < E

Hence, the top most senior is E.
